Juliana Areias – “Mare cheia”: on the rise
Juliana Areias, the Bossa Nova Baby is back to the Ellington Jazz Club celebrating “another trip around the sun”. This time, the full tide (“Mare Cheia”) of our new year brings to you the waves of top bossa nova classics and Juliana Areias’ original music created in collaboration with dear friends and talents from the four corners of the globe.
“Mare cheia”: on the rise concert is a unique opportunity to embark on a special celebration of Juliana’s musical journey listening with exclusivity to some of the original songs, including “Mare cheia”, that will feature on Juliana’s first album currently under production.
Performed for the very first time at the Ellington Jazz Club by Graham Wood (piano), Marcio Mendes (guitar / percussion), Paul Millard (sax/flute), Pete Jeavons (bass) and Chris Tarr (drums); this milestone performance melds music notes and life adventures that carry flavours and influences from Juliana’s favourite composers such as Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Djavan, Baden Powell, Joao Bosco and Lenine.

December sees the PJS ‘Ladies of Jazz’ tradition extended across the month this year, featuring some of the greatest women in jazz in West Australia. Brazilian songstress Juliana Areias is back at the Kiosk – Floreat Beach , for a new and sensational Sunset-Song-Summer Season of “Brazilian Music & The Beach – The Perfect Combination”, launching the season accompanied by Gus Pontenza , Brazilian talented guitarist and singer recently arrived in Australia. Together, they will perform a fine mix of traditional bossa and samba favorites with contemporary rock, pop and soul influences.

After the São Paulo premiere of Samba Resolution, documentary that features Juliana Areias, Marcio Mendes & the Perth Samba Social Club, for the third consecutive year Juliana Areias heads to Sydney to perform at the Ritmo Brazilian Day, this Sunday, 15/9, from 2:30pm.
It has been quite an exciting couple of months for Juliana Areias with many interesting performances. One of them, at the Perth International Jazz Festival, was captured by the lenses of the Perth-based film director Antony Webb, winner of the past “Young Filmmaker of the Year”.
The premiere of Samba Resolution was organised by its producer, Claudia Rondon, and happened on the 10th of September in São Paulo at Cinematilha, Matilha Cultural – a renowed space that supports culture. Journalists, Austrade – Consulate of Australia in São Paulo as well as sponsors from Socana Cachaça and Yes Australia were present at the event.

The new youtube playlist is composed by 12 videos where Juliana interprets a fine selection of iconic bossa nova, samba, bolero and chorinho tunes composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim ( Inutil Paisagem, So danco samba); Carlos Lyra ( Influencia do Jazz) with Dolores Duran ( O negocio eh amar); Chico Buarque ( Samba de Orly, Samba do grande amor), Dorival Caymmi (Rosa Morena), Pixinguinha ( Carinhoso), Cartola ( Preciso me encontrar), Ivone Lara ( Sonho meu) and Rosa Passos ( Samba sem voce).
The new Playlist was launched on 26 July 2013, Doug de Vries’ birthday while himself along with Diana Clark, Heloisa McMillan , Mike & Andy Beven were touring Brazil and performing with some of the Brazilian Instrumental Music Masters such as Yamandu Costa, Rogerio Caetano, Marcelo Goncalves, Ronaldo do Bandolim, Ze Paulo Becker, Joao & Maria Souto and Carrilho Family.
