The Ginga Brazil Concert at Kulcha, the Multicultural Arts Centre of Western, was a great success.
In a quartet format, Juliana Areias (voice), Glenn Rogers (guitar), Adam Springhetti (double bass) and Marcio Mendes (percussion) had the pleasure to perform to a great and attentive public of Brazilian Music lovers on the 23 July. Their sophisticated repertoire included songs by Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Joao Bosco, Ivan Lins, Djavan, Joyce and Lenine; among others composers.
Their innovative arrangement for “Carinhoso” (by Pixinguinha) demonstrated how a melodic choro can also become a pulsing baiao.
The public cheered with excitement and enthusiasm the 3 original tunes of the concert: “Mare Cheia” (Johannes Dimyadi/ Juliana Areias); “Relaxa” (Adam Springhetti/Juliana Areias) and “Flecha de Oxossi” (Glenn Rogers/Juliana Areias) – where the genuineness of the cuica sound transported everyone to the mystical dimension of samba.
At the end of the concert, the public were still keen to listening to the performers’ music for much longer. Many people have also inquired about CDs for sale. However it is not available yet, the next goal of the project is to record it. Therefore, keep your eyes and ears at www.julianaareias.com to be the first ones to know about it.
