Kings Park festival festival_poster_2014The production of the “Bossa Nova Baby Album” is progressing in full swing – or , shall we say “in full bossa” – thanks to the amazing talent and passion of all the musicians and professionals involved in the project and  with the support of the Department of Culture and the Arts and fans around the world. You can pre-order your copy of the album now.

Following a month of shows at the Crown Casino and aCINE VIVO LIFE Juliana Areias special invitation to perform at the Cine Vivo – 10th Latin American Film Festival  (20/9), Juliana Areias is confirmed to perform on the closing day of the Kings Park Festival , on 28/9 – 12.30pm- 2pm at the main stage, located in the WA Botanic Garden, near the corner of Lovekin and Forrest Drives. The Belleville Gypsy Quartet and  Libby Hammer Big Band are also part of the program.

SUNSET SONGS MINI LOGOThe new season of SUNSET SONGS  begins on 02/10! Every Thursday 6.30-8pm  at the Kiosk Floreat Beach  – Brazilian Music and the beach, the perfect combination, this year featuring Juliana Areias & Gus Potenza.  This musical residency started in 2010 with  So Brazil Duo and  it has become a musical tradition in Perth since then. Summer time!  Brazilian songstress Juliana Areias is back at the Kiosk – Floreat  Beach , for a new  and sensational Sunset-Song-Summer Season  of “Brazilian Music & The Beach – The Perfect Combination”, launching the season accompanied by Gus Pontenza , Brazilian talented guitarist and singer recently arrived in Australia. Together, they will perform a fine mix of traditional bossa and samba favorites with contemporary rock, pop and soul influences.

Brazil! The very word excites the imagination with a delicious and unique blend of rhythms and sensations.

Celebrating the consecutive success of her performances,  Brazilian singer Juliana Areias “  –   is back to the Ellington presenting the “best chapters” of her previous shows – Ginga Brazil / Bossa Nova Baby / La vie en Rose in Ipanema / Born to Samba – as well as new vogue songs.

From fresh arrangements of  Jobim’s classics such as The Girl from Ipanema and Sergio Mendes’ popular samba recording Mas que nada to contemporary  Brazilian icons –  Djavan, Joao Bosco, Lenine, Ceu, Maria Gadu, Maria Rita, Rita Lee, Zelia Duncan,  Adriana Calcanhoto,  Arlindo Cruz, Moacyr Luz  and Aldyr Blanc – The Sounds of Brazil show also features some of Juliana’s original songs.

On board with Juliana Areias on this sensuous musical journey, is a stellar line up of new talents: just arrived Brazilian multi instrumentalist Leandro Cezarino (guitar, cavaquinho and percussion); pianist Jeremy Poole-Johnson, bassist Joe Southwell and drummer Bronton Ainsworth; plus surprise special guests – Marcio Mendes, Carlos Santos and Walber Almeida – and surprise reasons to celebrate. Brazilian chanteuse Juliana Areias has lived for many years in Europe(Switzerland) and New Zealand prior to moving to Australia. Always working in the music circuit, her career includes a performance at the revered Montreau Jazz Festival. Her authentic Brazilian voice, sense of groove, engaging charisma and a very personal and passionate stage presence are the trademarks of her work.

The Brazilian Zest Jazz Club Premier Night feat. Juliana Areias Quartet

Ginga Brazil Concert Review and what’s next.

The Ginga Brazil Concert at Kulcha, the Multicultural Arts Centre of Western, was a great success.

In a quartet format, Juliana Areias (voice), Glenn Rogers (guitar), Adam Springhetti (double bass) and Marcio Mendes (percussion) had the pleasure to perform to a great and attentive public of Brazilian Music lovers on the 23 July. Their sophisticated repertoire included songs by Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Joao Bosco, Ivan Lins, Djavan, Joyce and Lenine; among others composers.

Their innovative arrangement for “Carinhoso” (by Pixinguinha) demonstrated how a melodic choro can also become a pulsing baiao. 

The public cheered with excitement and enthusiasm the 3 original tunes of the concert: “Mare Cheia” (Johannes Dimyadi/ Juliana Areias); “Relaxa” (Adam Springhetti/Juliana Areias) and “Flecha de Oxossi” (Glenn Rogers/Juliana Areias) – where the genuineness of the cuica sound transported everyone to the mystical dimension of samba.

At the end of the concert, the public were still keen to listening to the performers’ music for much longer.  Many people have also inquired about CDs for sale. However it is not available yet, the next goal of the project is to record it. Therefore, keep your eyes and ears at www.julianaareias.com to be the first ones to know about it.

Seasoning the night, Brazilian Zest provided a delicious platter of typical Brazilian finger foods: pao de queijo ( Cheesebuddy), kibe, coxinha and risoles. (See the upcoming gigs page to find out about the new Brazilian Zest Jazz Club with Juliana Areias and guests starting from Fri 27 August).

What’s on

 Perth has a new residence for Brazilian Music Lovers.

The Brazilian singer Juliana Areias ( vocalist of So Brazil Duo) is leading a new project called the “BRAZILLIANT NIGHT” – every Wednesday from 8pm at The Ocean One Bar – Scarborough Beach ( 1 Manning St).
 
Performing in a band format,  Juliana Areias will always have special guest musicians.
 
The evening starts from 8pm with silky bossa nova, samba and “MPB da boa” , progressing to others upbeat Brazilian rhythms and fusions that are sure to “make you feel like dancing” – forro, baiao, xote, maracatu, carimbo, samba reggae, samba funk and samba rock – up to Midnight.
 
To complete the “Barzinho feel” and your Brazilliant Night experience, special Brazilian finger food and drinks are served at The Ocean One Bar.
