In a Christmas mood, time to relax for a sec and indulge yourself in a sensuous bossa nova way. Brazilian Singer Juliana Areias’ last public concert of the year in Perth prior she heads to Adelaide for a New Year’s Eve Celebration.

An intimate performance full of sway and delicious subtleties sharing the stage with finest Australian Guitarist Mark Shanahan and Brazilian Multi instrumentalist Leandro Cezarino ( guitar, cavaquinho and percussion).

In the concert repertoire, classic and contemporary bossa, samba, baiao and maracatus by master composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, Joao Bosco, Guinga ,Djavan, Joyce, Lenine and Maria Gadu – as well as a breathtaking selection of French, Italian , Spanish and Jazz tunes including the swing standards “Autumn Leaves” (Les feuilles mortes) and “I wish your love” (Que reste-t-il de nos amours ); plus surprising jazzy makeover of Pop tunes such as The Beatles’ “Stand by me”, Police’s “ Every breath you take” and Kate’s Perry’s “Firework” – all performed with an irresistible bossa nova accent.

Known as The Bossa Nova Baby – a nickname given by Brazilian journalist Ruy Castro (author of Bossa Nova’s history book Chega de Saudade) – Juliana’s love for this seductive music evolved into a desire to become a professional singer after meeting and learning directly from some of its creators.

Brazil! The very word excites the imagination with a delicious and unique blend of rhythms and sensations.

Celebrating the consecutive success of her performances,  Brazilian singer Juliana Areias “  –   is back to the Ellington presenting the “best chapters” of her previous shows – Ginga Brazil / Bossa Nova Baby / La vie en Rose in Ipanema / Born to Samba – as well as new vogue songs.

From fresh arrangements of  Jobim’s classics such as The Girl from Ipanema and Sergio Mendes’ popular samba recording Mas que nada to contemporary  Brazilian icons –  Djavan, Joao Bosco, Lenine, Ceu, Maria Gadu, Maria Rita, Rita Lee, Zelia Duncan,  Adriana Calcanhoto,  Arlindo Cruz, Moacyr Luz  and Aldyr Blanc – The Sounds of Brazil show also features some of Juliana’s original songs.

On board with Juliana Areias on this sensuous musical journey, is a stellar line up of new talents: just arrived Brazilian multi instrumentalist Leandro Cezarino (guitar, cavaquinho and percussion); pianist Jeremy Poole-Johnson, bassist Joe Southwell and drummer Bronton Ainsworth; plus surprise special guests – Marcio Mendes, Carlos Santos and Walber Almeida – and surprise reasons to celebrate. Carnival, the greatest party on earth. It was precisely in a Carnival summer night that Brazilian Singer Juliana Areias was born.

Due to the high demand and incredible success of  Juliana Areias – Born to Samba Concert on 7 February, she is back to celebrate and create her own carnival in Perth, bringing to the Ellington Jazz Club a taste of this unique atmosphere again.  Perth has a new residence for Brazilian Music Lovers.

The Brazilian singer Juliana Areias ( vocalist of So Brazil Duo) is leading a new project called the “BRAZILLIANT NIGHT” – every Wednesday from 8pm at The Ocean One Bar – Scarborough Beach ( 1 Manning St).
 
Performing in a band format,  Juliana Areias will always have special guest musicians.
 
The evening starts from 8pm with silky bossa nova, samba and “MPB da boa” , progressing to others upbeat Brazilian rhythms and fusions that are sure to “make you feel like dancing” – forro, baiao, xote, maracatu, carimbo, samba reggae, samba funk and samba rock – up to Midnight.
 
To complete the “Barzinho feel” and your Brazilliant Night experience, special Brazilian finger food and drinks are served at The Ocean One Bar.
