A night of Brazilian Samba
Australian virtuoso guitarist Doug de Vries’ Sexteto Zona Zul from Melbourne team up with Perth-based Brazilian singer Juliana Areias for a night of authentic, traditional ‘Chorinho’ music. Precursor to the samba and bossa nova, Chorinho is a rich and playful genre of Brazilian music – the perfect match for the ‘Samba de Gafieira’ dance.
Featuring a distinctive combination of stringed instruments – guitar, mandolin, cavaquinho, seven-string guitar – with flute, pandeiro percussion and stunning voice, this unforgettable musical experience will move your soul and your feet.

In a quartet format, Juliana Areias (voice), Glenn Rogers (guitar), Adam Springhetti (double bass) and Marcio Mendes (percussion) had the pleasure to perform to a great and attentive public of Brazilian Music lovers on the 23 July. Their sophisticated repertoire included songs by Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Joao Bosco, Ivan Lins, Djavan, Joyce and Lenine; among others composers.
