I am still here – Mother & Daughter Oscar indication

Mother and daughter are nominated in the Best Actress at the Oscars : Fernanda Torres (2025) & Fernanda Montenegro (1999) – both Brazilian stars. It hasn’t happened since Judy Garland (1955 and 1962) and her daughter Liza Minnelli (winner of 1973).

Brazilian master piece film “I am still here” got 3 Oscars nominations for : Best Picture, Best Actress and Best International Feature Film.

“I’m still here” by Walter Salles – is a true story based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s book about how his mother Eunice Paiva kept her family together and become a lawyer defending Indigenous human rights in Brazil despite having her husband taken, tortured, killed and his body disappeared by Brazilian Military Dictatorship. (1964-1984). It is about keeping our memory fresh, clear and history alive. It is about keeping your dignity and smile no matter what circumstances.

Brazil, the USA, the whole world and we all thank all of you, the hundreds of people involved in this work of art, which reflects all of humanity. Always relevant and even more so at a time when we are experiencing such a huge dichotomy in the world. “I’m still here” brings the necessary light. Thank you for representing us, giving us a voice.
